Natural Dyes

Sub-Project: Natural Dyes

Description: Using a juicer and/or cutting vegetables you can create amazing natural dyes for kids to use. Featured here are spinach leaves and water to create a very nice forest green dye, red Cabbage to create an amazing purple (btw, if you add Baking soda, or lemon Juice you can change the color) and at the very end is a beetroot juice dye to create a serious red!

Hand out a white wax crayon to your kids and have them draw the picture of the vegetable you juiced on a piece of paper. Next take your natural dyes and paint over the drawings.. see the magic as the image pops up!

Learning Objective: Associating vegetables with colors

Time frame: available almost anytime of the year or whenever these vegetables are in season
